Yard Sale a Success!

Yesterday was our long-awaited yard sale and of course it happened to be on our hottest day so far.  Temperatures got up to around 106!  Despite the heat we had a steady stream of people coming to shop.  By the end of the day we made almost $700 so I think it was a success.  In addition we have some pieces of furniture that we are going to sell on Craigslist so we'll have even more money coming in.

We want to thank everyone who donated to our yard sale.  We wouldn't have been able to do it without everyone who helped us!

Updates!

So, long time no post.  Things have been crazy around here lately.  If you haven't heard already, we adopted a five year old!  Her name is Savannah.  It's kind of a long story that I don't really want to post here, but we have been seeing her on the weekends for over a month and last weekend we got full custody of her.

Because of that, we didn't have our yard sale on the date we planned.  Instead we are holding it on Saturday June 30th.  I have a garage full of stuff that still needs to be priced and organized.  We are still planning on adopting an infant in a year or two so now we have two adoptions to pay for!  We still have the Kindle Fire giveaway going on too.

I'll leave you with some pictures of Savannah.

Yard Sale Update!

Our garage has been steadily filling up with stuff to sell thanks to our awesome and generous friends and family! The date for the yard sale is June 30th and we have decided that we will just hold it at our house. Too much hassle to transport all of the items we have amassed.

We are also going to attempt to have a bake sale at the same time and this is where we are going to ask for more help (surprised?). Would you consider baking something to donate to our bake sale? Or do you have any foodie connections where we could get some things donated (I'm thinking biscuits, donuts, beverages, etc)?

Send us a message or comment if you'll be able to help. We wouldn't be able to do this without all of your Leo and for that we are eternally grateful!!

Homestudy complete!

Yesterday was the long awaited homestudy.  This was the last thing we had to do in our long checklist from the agency.  A social worker came to our house for about two hours.  She interviewed both of us together, then each individually and then we went on a tour of the house.  Linus (our dog) was a bit too excited to see someone new and jumped all over her while she was sitting on the couch.  Lucky for us, she's a dog person.

She still has to write up the homestudy which will take a few weeks.  After that we are officially "on the list".  Right now it looks like our wait time is going to be around two years.  It's a long time yes, but we need that time to be able to save enough money.

We have some exciting ideas for some fundraisers, the first one being our yard sale in May.  We have been collecting donations.  If you have anything from spring cleaning we will gladly take it and add to our yard sale collection!  We were able to take advantage of a great sale on Amazon and we have a brand new Kindle Fire that we will be raffling at some point.  Also in the works are plans for a spaghetti dinner and a silent auction so if you know of anyone who is creative or has a skill they would like to donate, please send them our way!

We appreciate all of the support everyone has shown us so far and are thankful for every one of you!

Preparing for Parenthood

Tonight is our parenting class and one more check on the list of things to do for our agency.  We are not really sure about what to expect other than this is a class on newborn care given by a local hospital.  It is the last part of a four-part series designed for bio parents.  Obviously we won't need the classes dealing with labor and delivery, the hospital tour, etc.

Saturday is a big day for us.  We have scheduled our homestudy.  We'll be meeting with a social worker in our home for a couple of hours.  Once that is complete, we will officially be "on the list" and waiting.
