Thanks to my mother-in-law who came this past weekend to help me shop, Savannah finally has some fall and winter clothes! First we stopped at a consignment sale at a local church where we got some great deals and then to a department store where I had some gift certificates. Savannah loves wearing dresses so finding ones she could wear to school was my main focus. Now she has PLENTY. I also bought some leggings to go with them and a couple of pairs of jeans and hallelujah they actually fit her! (She has a problem with pants not fitting in the butt, but being too long).
When we got home we showed her each piece that we bought. Most of them were met with her screaming, "ooooh pretty!!!!!". One dress I bought was an olive green button up dress with a belt. I knew she probably wouldn't like the color (because it wasn't pink or purple or rainbow), but it was so darn cute I took a chance on it. When I pulled that one out of the bag, her response was a much more muted, "oooh, not pretty".
This morning the weather was supposed to be in the low fifties starting out so I knew it was going to be cold. I set her out a pair of jeans, a short-sleeve shirt (because it would get hotter later on) and a jacket to wear. She woke up grumpy this morning and said she wanted to wear a dress. I told her she could wear one, but it had to be the green one that she didn't like. She pouted for a bit, but then eventually put it on. Probably childish of me, but I got her to wear the dress! And I'm sure she was freezing in it this morning because she didn't want to wear leggings.

The Best!
This morning savannah was so to rise as usual. She dragged her feet the whole time I was trying to get her ready for school saying, "I want daddy".
I finally got her out the door and as she was getting in the car she said to me, "I'm sorry I didn't cooperate this morning, but I just wanted daddy super bad because he's the best!".

It's Official
As of September 10th, our adoption of Savannah is finally complete. We went to court in August for our finalization hearing, but because of some legal stuff that we won't go into, we had to wait until they could finally sign off on everything. Everything is done and she is now officially Savannah Nix! We are so excited that we are done with all of the legal stuff and can just focus on being a family now.
In the past few weeks we have seen major improvements with Savannah's behavior. We have added melatonin to our nightly routine and it has been a huge success. Now when it's time for bed Savannah yawns during story time and when it's time for lights-out she goes straight to sleep. Most of the time she's out within five minutes. This has freed up so much time and now Eric and I actually get some time alone together. Even if we are just sitting on the couch watching tv, it has been nice.
School has been going well too. We weren't sure how she would do in a classroom setting, but as far as we know, she is adjusting. She talks about her "BFF" every day when she gets home and how she misses her friends when she doesn't go to school on the weekends.
I hate to do a post without pics, so here are a few randoms from my phone:

Eric's birthday
Eric's birthday was at the end of August. Yesterday we had a belated birthday lunch with my mom, stepdad and brother. Steaks were grilled, good food was had and we all had a good time visiting.

Bedtime
Bedtime here lately has become an ordeal. We keep a pretty strict routine, but night time seems to be when Savannah's meltdowns happen. For the past week or two we have been trying letting her play quietly in her room until she falls asleep. It never takes long. This is what I found last night when I realized there was no noise coming from her room.
I don't think she has enough toys. :)

Savannah started kindergarten this week. Leading up to her starting school we weren't sure if she was excited or dreading it. She seemed to not care either way. We went to Open House and met her teacher who seems very nice. After that Savannah told us that she never wanted to go to that school again. I think that was mainly because she had to miss ballet class to go to Open House.
The first day of school was pretty amazing because I got her up and out the door with no meltdowns.

I think she is enjoying school, but of course when we ask her what she did that day her answer is always, "I don't remember." Well, she did remember about the dead frog that she and some other kids buried in the playground.
We are still working on adjusting to our new family and there are good days and bad days. I would say though, that the first week of school was a success. Savannah has been a trooper this summer with so many transitions. I think she's handled them all pretty well.
Last weekend we met with an amazing photgrapher (Natalie Spargo Sez Me Photography). Savannah was in a mood that morning, but here are a few of the awesome pictures that she was able to capture:

We have yet another new family member, but it's probably not what you think. Her name is Violet and she's a cute and cuddly kitten.
She wasn't so cute when I first found her at my office downtown, scratching on the window trying to get inside. The poor thing was dirty and worn out. I have no idea how she got there, but I couldn't just leave her there. I found a box and scooped up the poor thing intending to take her to a vet to check her out and then see if I could find her a home.

When I called Eric asking him to google a vet downtown for me, he asked if I wanted to keep her. Absolutely I did, but I didn't think there was any chance he wanted to. So I took her back in to my office, hoping she would keep quiet. The poor thing was so worn out that she slept the rest of the day (4 hours). After work I took her to the vet and got her all checked out. Everything looked good so I took her home.
After a bath and a good night's sleep she was a brand new cat. She's actually orange, not grey like she first appeared. She loves to attack our ankles and feet. Linus and Lucy (our dog and other cat) are still getting used to her. Lucy is ticked that there is another cat in the house and Linus is just excited. We can't tell if he wants to play with her or eat her so we are keeping them separated until she gets bigger.
